Peer review process

  1. Articles must be posted to Journal’s address as described in “Instructions for authors”, receiving a reference number and date of receipt.
  2. The articles are allocated to peer-reviewers during editorial meetings by the editor or assistant editors. The name of the reviewer is written on the article using an alphanumeric code in order to maintain anonymity during the review process.
  3. If the editor or assistant editor feels the article does not fulfill publication criteria, this will be returned to the author.
  4. Unsuccessfully submitted articles are returned to the author together with a letter from the editor explaining the reasons for rejection.
  5. The peer review process is undertaken by two specialists in the field. The identity of the reviewers is only known to the editor or assistant editors. Reviewers are chosen so that they do not have professional links to the authors. The reviewers have a maximum of three weeks to assess the articles. Authors have a ten day period to respond.
  6. The accepted manuscript, once modified by the authors, is resent to the same peer-reviewers who have ten days to re-assess the article. If the specialist reviewers feel the author has not addressed the identified issues, the article is rejected.
  7. The final decision is communicated to the author.
