Abstract:

Infectious pathology among patients with schizophrenia was a challenge for clinical studies. With no clear answer, the inflammatory theory in schizophrenia process brings new particularities that lead to the idea that inflammation may even be a trigger factor in the future development of schizophrenia. The theory proposes that abnormalities of central nervous system metabolism arise because modulated inflammatory reactions damage the microvascular system of the brain of schizophrenia patients in reaction to environmental agents, including infections and hypoxia (1). Inflammatory process causes psychosis through secondary vasculitis. Inflammatory vasculitis theory has implications in epidemiological, genetic, neuroimagistic and neuropathology area (2). The purpose of this paper is the impact of somatic comorbidities as infection pathology on the patient’s clinical status measured by scales assessing schizophrenia such as PANSS, CGI-S, AIMS and GAF. The results show clinical changes in terms of general psychopathology and psychotic form, with neurological complications as tardive diskinesia when inflammatory process occurs.
