Abstract:

Adolescence is the age when aspirations take form and the key features of the developing personality are shaped. This stage of life raises problems for both, parents and educators. The boundaries of this period of life are not clearly demarcated, ranging from 12 to approximately 18 ? 20 years. It is the last and the most complex stage in reaching adulthood. Puberty is an important phase, as it is characterized by biological changes with the appearance of secondary sexual characteristics. Adolescence is characterized by a series of acute phenomena, due to the fact that it is a period of transition, when the protective familial universe is abandoned for social life, making the child an adult. Such phenomena can take the form of a real crisis, called “juvenile crisis” or “the awkward age crisis”. Psychological changes during adolescence represent a normal period of conflict necessary for reaching balance. However, adolescence can be seen as a dynamic stage of life that aims at autonomy, identity and sexual development. The adolescent feels the need to escape his ego and to expand his interests beyond the family circle.
