In the course of time, many specialties derived from forensic pathology, such as criminalistics,
clinical toxicology, forensic psychiatry and recently clinical criminology, medical law, with its modern
branch, bio-law, psychanalysis and forensic hermeneutics.
The conjunction between forensic medicine and psychiatry gave birth to forensic psychiatry,
which determines the pathologist to have a competence in psychiatry, and more, to elaborate valid
scientific criteria for defining psychiatric responsibility and nonresponsibility.
Forensic medicine represents a medical specialty which is, inevitable, influenced by other
disciplines and biomedical researches, but also offering scientific information derived from its research
and practice to the society and judiciary system. The genetic identification paradigm (genetic print)
illustrates this inevitable transdisciplinary step. Inter and transdisciplinarity of forensic medicine are
confirmed by the hystorical evolution of this discipline, which was determined by the progress of
medical and biological sciences together with the progress of law (which provided the means to apply
science in justice), without losing its epistemological science status.
