Abstract:
The Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is one of the most frequent commorbidities of the depressions,
unfortunately insufficiently known and therefore rarely diagnosed in our country. This is due firstly to
underevaluation of the IBS aspects, in the context of psychiatric phenomenology and secondly to
psychiatrists’ attitude and inclination to „psycologize” any phenomenon related to digestive dysfunctions
area and last but not least, we have to honestly accept, due to ignorance of the symptomatology of this
syndrome which is encoded in ICD-10 at K58. After a presentation of the incidence of IBS among the
depressive in-patients at „Socola” Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Iasi (Romania), the authors review the
physiopathologic, diagnostic and therapeutic particularities of this commorbidity.
