Abstract:
Introduction: Women are more susceptible to and are developing both alcohol addiction
and problems related to alcohol consumption. The age of alcohol consumption debut correlates
with risk factors, many studies confirming that the average age of alcohol consumption
debut has decreased especially among women.
Objectives: Testing and validating a structural model for a series of psychological variables
that would explain the quantity of consumed alcohol and the number of relapses
among both women and men diagnosed with alcohol abuse or addiction; comparative
analysis of the group of women vs. the group of men as to the invariance of the structure
of latent media of the causal model; revealing the implications this model has for the prevention
and clinical intervention for rehabilitation.
Material and Methods: A sample of 358 persons was involved in the research, all of them
hospitalized in psychiatry care units no. 9 and 17 at Dr. “Alexandru Obregia” Hospital.
Two categories of predictor variables were included (socio-demographic variables and
psychological traits of personality). The dependent variables in this study were represented
by the quantity of alcohol consumed and the number of registered relapses. A type
of self-report questionnaire has been elaborated.
