Abstract:

Raoul Spifame from the text Les Illuminés by Gérard de Nerval is a hero of delusion, hallucination and madness. His madness is nothing else than his incapacity of being, of returning to what is private and defining for his personality and, in this way, to establish the limits of his identity. The character mentally offcentered from his identity, takes over the personality of the king up to the point in which he cannot make the distinction between his own personality and the usurped one. His decentralization towards the other one, to his physical other self does not manifest itself as a means of perceiving the other one. That is of alterity, but as illusory madness.
