The modern scientific concept defines the alcohol dependence as a chronic relapsing disorder that can be cured. Relapse prevention programs are part of the interventions based on scientific evidences. (1) The recovery process is marked by abstinence episodes interrupted by slips and relapse. The studies on relapse show that their proper management is closely linked to high risk situations management. The patients have been divided into two groups: a group which continued the treatment with tiapridal tablets of 100 mg / 3 tablets / day, and the second group which received no treatment (control group), but accepted to come for examination on the dates set and undergo the required investigations. As a result of the study performed to prevent relapse, we have found that there are better results in the case of the group treated with tiapridal than in the case of the control group. The medication treatment and monitoring are not enough though. Today, the US Institute of Medicine Committee for the Study of Treatment and Rehabilitation Services for Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse (Institute of Medicine, 1990), admits that the specialized treatment is just a necessary and vital part in the treatment of alcoholism.
