Abstract:
The modern literature considers that although it is not possible to reproduce in animals all
autistic symptoms, as for example the deficiencies of language or intuitive ability, most animal
models of autism developed so far are able to shape a series of typical symptoms through certain
tasks that assess mostly the sociability, vocalization or the change of routine. In this way, all
teratogenic agents who can induce this complex disorder are acting during the first eight weeks
after conception. While this is a very important aspect in the generation of potential animal
models of autism, it also represents an evidence that autism arises very early in development of
the individual. We present here the relevance of an increase valproic acid administration in the
generation of an animal model of autism, as well as the cognitive deficits generated in this model, as tested through some specific behavioural tasks for memory assessing.
