Actually, the anxious-depressive states represent one of most frequent psychic problems, with
negative impact on the quality of life of the human subject; the depression gets „younger“ – nowadays
the mean age of the debut of the depression is 20–21 years; the depression is one of the most frequent
cases of work incapacity; literature data demonstrate a co-morbidity of circa 83 - 96% of anxious
problems with the depressive ones.
There were investigated 124 of women from 18 to 45 years, suffering from a non-psychotic
depression. For 95 patients (basic group), the depression has been accompanied with an increased
level of the personal and/or reactive anxiety. 29 patients, with the anxiety level within the
physiologically acceptable limits, formed a control group. All the patients have been examined
clinically (criteria ICD-10); clinical-psychologically (Hamilton test, Spielberger scales). By applying the
specially elaborated questionnaire and by establishing the correlation coefficients, the factors
contributing to the development of depression at the persons with an increased level of anxiety have
been studied. Were established: for the persons with an increased level of the personal anxiety, the
depression was developing gradually, its severity was correlating in a positive way with the anxiety
level; the depression against the background of a reactive anxiety was characterizing with an acute
beginning, its evolution was depending on the stressogenic situation dynamics, while the personal and
reactive anxiety was declaring itself to the same extent, the depressions were evolving acutely, even
after non-considerable stresses. Probably, the depressive symptoms are the result of some complex
bio-psycho-social and cognitive processes, as compared to anxiety, which represents a specific type of
primary affective reaction, more determined by instinct. The clinical observations in time of patients
with a co-morbidity of anxious and depressive states have shown that the presence of anxietypersonality
trait in the pre-morbid increases the risk of its association with depression and facilitates
the following development of mixed affective states.
