Abstract:
The proportion of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) who receive treatment has
increased substantially in recent years, partly owning to the introduction of better — tolerated
treatments such as selective serotonin reLiptake inhibitors (SSRI). However, almost all patients with
depression experience, quantitative sleep disturbance and numerous studies have pointed to a close
link between the regulation of sleep and improvement in mood disturbances. Agornelanina is a novel
antidepressant with melatonergic MTi and MT2 receptor agonist and 5-HT2c antagonist. Animal stud les
and clinical trials indicates resynchronization of altered circadian rhytms and a signifiant
antidepressant efficacy.
