Abstract:
Lately, a large number of studies have displayed an increased interest regarding the connections
and interactions that might appear between hypertension and anxiety, with conflicting results reported
about these aspects. Also, it has been suggested that both oxidative and nitrosative stress might regulate
the connections between anxiety and hypertension. In this way, in this paper, we were interested
to see the relevance of oxidative/nitrosative stress in the connection between angiotensin-II induced
hypertension and anxiety behaviour in rats, by determining the connection between the results
of elevated plus maze behavioural test and some oxidative / nitrosative markers. We found a significant
correlation between the level of anxiety, expressed as the time spent in the open arms of the elevated
plus maze and the oxidative stress markers which resulted after angiotensin II administration. This
study could results in opening new avenues for research into the causal role of both oxidative and nitrosative
stress in anxiety and hypertension. These results might be of great importance in understanding
the connections between the hypertension and anxiety process, as well as in establishing.
