Abstract:
Progressive acceleration of the pace of everyday life, the major social and professional changes
seen in recent decades, which increase not only the number of interpersonal relationships, but also
their superficiality, and the emergence of conflicting attitudes in the nuclear family and in the extended
family lead to additional psychological stress, that might overcome the contemporary individual,
making him vulnerable to disease, due to predisposing factors, such as the psychological and sometimes
physical discomfort. The doctor-patient relationship encompasses the content of medical work, it
is the paradigm based on what each medical care is conceived and delivered. The modern doctor
should be acquainted with the typology of each patient, he should be aware of the way the patient
perceives him, and his relationship with the patient should not be limited to delivering of services with
which the patient is not quite familiar. As a good psychologist, the doctor builds a close interpersonal
relationship with the patient, for the benefit of the latter. Emotional openness of the doctor towards the
patient represents “the keystone in medical psychology”, as it dispels anxiety, uncertainty and it humanizes
the medical care. The power of the human soul is a remedy that nothing can equal.
