Abstract:
In the world literature, the gallery of the “culpables without culpability” represents a
particular chapter, being used in an original way by writers belonging to various epochs.
Sofocles, Shakespeare, Dostoevsky will illustrate in different ways culpability assumed in
the absence of a real culpability. In this article we study some aspects of (non)culpability in
Kafka’s works, having in view his literature of confession and his fiction. The Praguese
author approaches the ontological culpability from the point of view of OEdipus complex.
The culpability of existing, the initial culpability, the metaphysical one, the culpability of
ignorance, the culpability of nonculpability are only a few of the ways we “filter” Kafka’s
creation.
