Abstract:
Skin carcinoma is the most common cutaneous neoplasia worldwide, regardless of borders or race
and its increasing incidence turned it into a real public health problem in many countries around the
globe. Due to the fact that skin carcinoma is considered a less aggressive neoplasia and does not raise
issues of mortality or aggression, most studies have overlooked the psychological effect which it may
have and only in the last decade the need for questionnaires regarding this condition was taken into
consideration. Skin neoplasia may change the patient’s psychosocial balance in a negative way, through
many issues involved in this process, and the spectrum of emotional reactions and psychosocial consequences
is a large one, in which we find anxiety, fear, sadness, depression, helplessness and hopelessness
as well as adjustment disorders, anxiety disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, family
conflicts or existential crises.
